Your info reads as follows ; In Oxford, OH they found Ivan & the Sabres, a somewhat progressive Miami University band that was willing to change their name to the Lemon Pipers and follow K&K back to New York City. It was a smart move. Within six months they’d have the #1 record on the pop charts, “Green Tambourine,” just one of many Paul Leka (music)/ Shelley Pinz (lyrics) compositions they’d record.
I would like it to be corrected to the following truths: In Oxford Ohio Tony and The Bandits a very progressive Miami University band that was willing to change their name to the Lemon Pipers and follow K&K back to New York City.
The Band (Tony and The Bandits) brought in Ivan Browne From The Sabers (his former group)to replace Tony Brazis. They were still booking under the name of Tony and The Bandits until The name change.
The Lemon Pipers name was derived from the Local Lemon-Monroe High school that one of the members of The Bandits attended. Ivan still to this day admits he hated the name choice of the band. He wanted something more Rockabilly sounding in nature.
Thank you I should hope this info gets chsnged to reflect the past in its best!
Don Mangus advertising/promo manager for Tony and The Bandits 1965-66 when they arrived from Cleveland and moved /lived in Bond Hill a suburb of Cincinnati. My Band was “The Rhode Runners” 64-67 Cincy. Tony Brazis and Bill Bartlett taught me to play guitar and manage the band in exchange for my artistic abilities and promotions.
Thanks! Will be reunited with RG Nave, Walmsley and Tony Brazis at the Summer of love Concert this August 18, 2007 in Cincinnati, Ohio,
